“Bite” is a short story about conflicting desires. The visual style and characters are inspired by the Nan Goldin photograph “Brian in Bed.”

I was interested in developing a dynamic between two characters that centers on a conflict between desire and disgust. I found the relationship between the characters in Goldin’s “Brian in Bed” compelling because of the discrepancy between their attention to each other, with Goldin’s gaze seeming to communicate attraction, but also fear, anger, and suspicion. I was also inspired by the mood of the photograph, which is dark despite the fact that it is literally quite light. These visual and emotional opposites became the basis for “Bite.”
