I shot the footage for this video on 16mm film and then used bleaching and scraping techniques to directly alter the film’s emulsion in order to represent themes of absence and grief. Editing digitally allowed me to blend scanned footage from before the bleach was applied with the altered footage to create two distinct but overlapping timelines.
